Do you know you are in the presence of the Lord?
James Tollett – July 19, 2013

As a third-generation Pentecostal/Charismatic believer, I have often heard people talk about the “presence of the Lord.”  Most of the time, they are talking about past experiences. However, in this Believer’s Tip of the Week, I pose the question: “Do you know you are in the presence of the Lord?”

Many people talk about the presence of the Lord from an experiential standpoint.  Usually they remember one of two scenarios:

I have been in both of those situations.  However, as believers, I think we have missed a very important point.  Paul reminds us that we are the temple or sanctuary of God, and that the Spirit of God is within us (1 Cor. 3:16).  Since the Spirit of God is within us as believers, then the presence of the Lord is also with us 24/7.  So why is it that we don’t experience His presence?  Let me offer some possible reasons why we do not acknowledge the presence of the Lord in our lives:

However, as believers, the Lord is with us and in us.  We just need to reconnect with Him.  Let me suggest some ways we can do this:

As believers, we do not need the Lord to “show up”—He is always with us!  We don’t have to wait for a room to become charged with His power, because He goes with us everywhere we go.  Our task is always to keep our spiritual “receptors” open to the ongoing presence of the Lord.  Oral Roberts taught that God is around us all the time.  Each day He has words for us and miracles for us.  Our task is to participate in what God is doing.

I hope in some way I have brought to your remembrance this week that as a believer, you are always in the presence of the Lord.

Until next week, I am James Tollett, your missionary to America.
